How To Be A Good Fastpitch Softball Parent

Softball Galaxy Family Owned

OK, I admit it.  I haven’t always been the best Softball Parent.  I’m not the worst, that’s for sure.  I’ve seen some pretty cruddy stuff from parents over the years and I can say I’ve never gotten to the point some of them have reached.  I’m still not perfect, but I strive to be better every tournament that I go to, every game that I watch, and every car ride we have home.

Fastpitch softball should be fun. PERIOD.  Without fun, what is the point?  Building character?  Ok, so softball is good for building character, but is your player having fun while she builds character?  If the answer is NO, then you need to find a new way for her to build character.  There is a time and a place for softball to be serious, but if there is not a point at which your player is having fun then there is a big issue here.

Maybe you’re the reason she’s not having fun?  Maybe you’re the reason she is literally shaking when she gets up to bat?  Maybe you’re the reason she overshot the fly ball because she tried so hard that she went a little overboard?  I’m so SICK of watching girls get down because of their parents.  I do think I can honestly say that I see this every tournament.  This is ridiculous and some of you parents are acting like babies.  Ok, that was harsh but it’s getting old seeing this behavior.

I am begging you parents to please stop ruining this sport for your kids.  Let them have fun.  Relax.  Enjoy the sport for what it is.

I’m just going to list a few ideas I have that may or may not help you, but I feel that there is this elephant in the room and it needs to be dealt with so here are my suggestions.

-As I’ve said.  Have fun and make it fun.  Let your player(s) have fun.  If you see them continually getting to the point they aren’t having fun then STOP.  Figure out what is wrong.  This is really important for younger players as they may not quite understand why you’re pushing them so hard on something they may already be doing their best at.  Of course they won’t have fun 100% of the time, but any competent parent should be able to tell if there is a disconnect here.

-Do not relive mistakes from the game on the ride home unless the player brings it up.  This is not the time nor the place.  If you want to discuss their mistakes that is fine, but give them a break on the ride home.  Many times they are exhausted and already upset from their mistakes so just leave it alone for a little while.  Let them know how much you enjoyed watching them play.

-Not everyone is meant to play softball.  Do not push your child into a sport just because YOU want them to play it.  If they show no signs of trying to get better then find a sport that does fit them.  I see this every season.  The one player that should most likely just find another sport.  Not because they aren’t good, but because you can tell they have absolutely no interest in softball.

-Stop being a sideline coach!  I hate this.  Your girls have a coach for a reason.  If the coach is not doing a good job then it is your responsibility as a parent to either find a team with a better coach or start your own team.  The middle of a game is not the time for you to start trying to correct your players’ issues.  That is what practice is for!  I see girls get so confused out there on the field because mom is yelling one thing, dad is yelling something and the coach is saying something else.  Talk about a good way to put your player on edge.  She’s going to make someone mad in this situation regardless, due to the fact everyone is yelling different things and she knows this so it puts her on edge.  DO NOT DO THIS!!

-Stop being a helicopter parent.  You don’t have to run to the dugout between every inning to talk to your player.  She is smart.  Let her pay attention to what is going on out in the field as they bat instead of having to listen to you.  Like I’ve already said.  Relax…Enjoy the game.

-Do not buy her a new ____________ (fill in the blank with bat/glove/cleat etc) expecting better results when the mechanics are the real problem.  Your player will improve much more with hard work than she will with a new piece of equipment.  Don’t get me wrong, she will need new equipment as she grows, but don’t do it just to expect different results when it’s not the equipment that is the problem.  Save that money up that you would have spent on the equipment and get some quality lessons.

-Do not live your life through her.  Some parents push their children to fulfill the things they didn’t accomplish.  This is not healthy.  You’re going to push her so hard that she will eventually tire of the sport.  Let her live her own dreams, not yours.

-Act like a mature adult.  Don’t act out in front of her, her teammates, or anyone else at the ball field.  You are her parents.  If you get out there and start cussing and arguing everything then YOU are the problem.  She’s going to be embarrassed (understandably so!).  If you have a problem with a call then take a breath and remember it is ONLY a game.  Stop being so narrowed visioned that you can’t see the bigger picture that this is a time to enjoy.  The days of being able to watch your daughter play softball are numbered so make them count.

-Do not bad mouth the coach or other players in front of your player.  This will end up giving her a negative view of them regardless of how she felt beforehand.  Eventually, she will not have trust from them and that causes rifts in the entire team when they need to be playing together, as a team.  If you have problems with the coach, then talk to the coach or find a different team.  If you have problems with the players then talk to the coach or the parents and try to keep your daughter out of it.

-Stop drinking.  Ok, honestly I really don’t care if you drink.  It’s what the result of the drinking is that I have a problem with.  You get mouthy.  You start yelling stuff at the players and umps you wouldn’t normally say and in the end, you are an embarrassment to the team, the players, and yourself.  So just avoid drinking during the games and save it for when you get home.+

So what do you think?  Do any of these apply to you?  I’ll admit it first and say that being a helicopter parent was an issue for me when my kids were beginning softball.  I’d run to the dugout and tell them what to be looking for during the next inning.  In my mind, I was only trying to help them improve.  Now, I very rarely venture near the dugout as I want my girl to be paying attention to the game.

As parents, we want our girls to succeed.  Many times we think we are helping them by doing these things.  Telling them what to watch out for or how to fix an issue, but like I’ve already said.  They are smart.  Let them play ball.  You just go and relax and enjoy being able to watch your girl play a sport she loves!

The Best Fastpitch Softball Bat Bags and Equipment Bags

Softball Galaxy Family Owned

Whether you play rec softball in your own city or spend many weekends traveling city to city playing multiple games in a weekend, you’re gonna need a good softball bat bag or equipment bag.  Depending on your play style and your equipment needs, the type of bag you will need will be different from others.  Sometimes the decision isn’t up to you and the team purchases all players the same bag, but if you’re reading this then that is probably not the case.  There are so many styles out there and it can be overwhelming trying to find the right bag for your player, so we’re gonna give you our top recommendations for bat bags and equipment bags right here!

Best Softball Bat Bag For New Player or Rec League Player

Athletico Youth Bat Backpack Bag

There is not really any sense that you should be dropping a ton of money on a first time player’s bat bag or a laid back rec league bat bag.  The Athletico Youth Bag fits the bill perfectly with a low price and a great reputation for having a quality bag good enough for lugging around your gear.  This bag isn’t fancy at all but it will easily tote 2 bats, your helmet,  and your glove back and forth to your fastpitch softball games.

Athletico Softball Bat Bag
Very similar to the bag above, however the bag above does not have a special compartment for cleats (or shoes/sandals) whereas this one does.

Best Fastpitch Softball Bat Bags (Non-Wheeled)

DeMarini Voodoo Rebirth Backpack

The Demarini Voodoo Rebirth Backpack Bat Bag is one of our personal favorites.  For what you pay and what you get it is a steal.  It is a very solidly built bat bag with room enough for all your gear (as long as you aren’t a catcher that is!).  One of our favorite parts of this bag is the pocket for the bats.  If you’ve ever used other bat bags you know that some pockets are made too short and your bat swings around knocking other people in the head every time you move.  That is not the case here!  The bag is available in different colors to match your team.  This is also a great bag to turn into a team bag if you’re looking into that since it is a very fairly priced bag (some colors cost more than others though).  I promise if you have been to a softball tournament you have walked past many of these bags being carried by other players.

EASTON GHOST Fastpitch Softball Bat & Equipment Backpack Bag (with mirror)
If for some reason the Demarini Voodoo Rebirth Bag doesn’t fit your taste then you definitely need to look into the Easton Ghost Backpack Bag!  This is one cool bag.  Not only can you pick from multiple colors and not only will it hold all of your equipment.  This bag also has a personal built-in mirror for those moment’s when your eye black smears or when your ponytail gets stuck in your facemask, or any other reason you may need a mirror.  We’ve got to admit, that is a very cool idea!  One other big difference between this and our highly recommended Demarini Voodoo bag is that the helmet holder is on the outside of this bag and can be hidden when not in use.

Best Fastpitch Softball Rolling Wheeled Bat Bags

Boombah Rolling Superpack 2.0 Softball Bat Bag
If you are a regular at the ballpark, then you probably knew this was coming.  This is THE rolling bag to own for a majority of the players out there (excluding catchers, we will cover that below).  Available in many colors on Amazon and even many more designs and colors at the Boombah website.  This bag holds everything you need and more for any travel ball or high school player.  While we personally think it’s a little on the big side for rec ball and beginners, it can still be used!  Especially if they are prone to carrying multiple bats and lots of gear.  If you are interested in this bag, make sure you are looking at the “2.0” version.  It fixed many issues the original Superpack had, however, the “leaning” problem still seems to be an issue, but not as bad as the original.  Despite that, this is still our favorite of all rolling bags out there.  You can also completely customize this bag at the Boombah website, however, unless you’re ordering for a whole team it is rather pricy (as of the writing of this article).

Easton E510W Bat & Equipment Wheeled Bag
For those that like the more elongated bags that completely protect your bats, you can’t really go wrong with the Easton E510W Bat Bag.  Usually, you can find this bag at a lower price than our recommended Boombah Bag and with its great track record, you won’t be disappointed in picking this bag up.  With enough room for 4 bats and all the gear you will need, this Easton bat bag works great for any busy travel ball or school player!

Best Fastpitch Softball Wheeled Catcher Bags

DeMarini Grind Wheeled Bag
Once again Demarini pulls out another great quality bag.  Yeah, we get it.  It’s huge!  But if you’ve never lugged around catcher’s gear then give it a shot.  You would end up wanting this bag too!  With enough room for your helmet, glove, cleats, and complete set of catcher’s gear this bag will hold it all.  No more 2 trips to the car for all your gear.  The bag also has 4 individually padded bat sleeves.   One thing to note with this bag is that it doesn’t really stand on its own.  The bag can lay flat or hang on the fence with built-in fence hooks.

No Errors NO E2 Wheeled Catchers Gear Bag

Another great catcher’s bag is the No Errors NO E2 bag.  You’re normally going to pay a bit more for this bag than the Demarini bag above, but it is a bag worth considering.  The No Errors bag seems to be built a bit beefier than the Demarini.  Just look at the fat boy wheels on this thing and you’ll see what we mean.  With heavy-duty materials and reinforced stitching, this bag is meant to take a beating.  The NO E2 is also available in multiple colors.

Best Equipment Bags

Easton E100g Equipment Bag
Somebody has to haul all of the miscellaneous equipment to these tournaments!  If you are this person then we have the bag you need.  In our opinion, Easton puts out the best bag for this and it seems as if we aren’t the only ones that feel that way as it’s a highly rated bag.  To give you an idea of the size of this bag, it is big enough to hold two full sets of catchers gear.  It’s a very sturdy, durable bag.  Perfect for those needing to carry equipment around the ball fields.

No Errors Ball Boy XL Wheeled Baseball Coaches Bag

If you’re looking for an equipment bag you can roll around the ballpark then here is the bag you need.  This is a very large bag.  Large enough to fit 2 six gallon ball buckets in, in case you were wondering!  The bag is made of heavy-duty fabric resistant to wear and tear and a handle that packs away inside of the bag.  With collapsable side panels, you can make even more space if needed.

Softball Bags & Totes For Softball Mom’s

We all know them.  The softball mommas.  Softball moms have got to have their softball themed bags and totes and we felt we couldn’t leave them out!  Here are a few bags that may peak your interest for you or any softball mom needing a little extra help carrying items to the ballpark.

Women’s Large Softball Tote

Urbanifi Sports Prints Utility Canvas Softball Tote Bag

Softball Cosmetic Bag

We really hope we’ve helped you in your search for the right fastpitch softball bat bag or equipment bag (or tote bags for the mommas).

Best Fastpitch Softball Bats For 2021

Softball Galaxy Family Owned

There comes a point in every softball player’s life where buying a better bat makes sense.  A good quality bat can add distance in the hands of those that know how to harness it.  It does need to be noted, however, that we don’t really recommend a new bat to fix bad swing mechanics.  If your player is struggling with hitting the ball, getting lots of pop-ups or weak grounders, then a bat will most likely not help much.  In that case, you may want to look into a personal hitting coach or some online lessons such as The Hitting Vault or Line Drive Nation.

Now, if you or your player has good swing mechanics then it may be the perfect time to upgrade the bat.  Bat technology is constantly improving and girls are always growing so the need to move up and upgrade will be a constant throughout any player’s lifetime.

Most of you will probably know about bat drop, the materials, and sizing but just in case you are new to this here is a quick overview to help out!  If you want, you can skip this and scroll straight past to see our 2021 fastpitch softball bat recommendations.

FYI: If you’re looking to save some $$$ on a new bat, make note of the fact that a few of the bat manufacturers (Demarini, Louisville Slugger) have Bat Day in the fall where they mark their last year’s models bats down a large percentage!!  You have to be quick as it’s only 1 day and some of the bats move fast, but you can catch bats at really low prices compared to usual.

Bat Drop

This is a number (referred to as “drop 11”, “drop 12”, “drop 10″ etc..) that is calculated by taking the length of the bat and subtracting the weight.  For instance, a 30” bat that weighs 20 oz would be considered a “drop 10” bat.  As a side note, you may also see it written as “-10” instead of “drop 10”.

When bat shopping, we like to consider the bigger drops like “drop 13” for newer hitters or hitters that aren’t quite as strong in their arms, whereas a smaller drop number bat could be handled a bit better by a girl that has more powerful arms.

Bat Materials

Composite bats and Alloy bats are the two main types of materials you will see used in fastpitch softball.  Each has its own advantages for why you would pick one over the other.

Composite Bats – Composite bats are made by layering material (usually carbon fiber) to form the bat.  When a composite bat is being made, the maker can distribute the materials in such a way that it makes the bat more balanced, or they may make it end loaded where more of the weight is at the end of the barrel.  A composite bat will usually have less sting than an alloy bat when you mis-hit a ball.

Composite bats also typically have a larger sweet spot (due to being able to stretch the barrel longer than an alloy barrel) and introduce more pop when hit squarely.  One thing to note is that composite bats are not really suitable for use in temperatures under 60 degrees according to most industry standards.  The problem arises more from the ball becoming denser in cold weather and it causes more stress on the bat.  This is one great reason to also carry an alloy bat as they can handle colder temperatures a bit better (they still are susceptible to damage in the cold though, just not quite as much as composite).

One downside to composites is that they often don’t perform as well right out of the wrapper and don’t really have that “pop” until after being broke in.

Alloy Bats – Alloy bats are very suitable for fastpitch softball so don’t overlook them.  Many players prefer them over composite bats.

One pro of an alloy bat is that it is often cheaper than a composite bat.  They also are hot out of the wrapper which means you’re good to go as soon as opening it.

Alloy bats are more durable than composite bats.  As stated above, alloy bats also handle colder weather better than composite. I will say it again though that they are not immune to damage in cold weather as it’s the denser ball that is the problem.

BAT SIZING

We have to give Lousiville slugger some credit.  When it comes to a bat sizing guide they have come up with a really simple one using height and weight that we recommend checking out.  Understand that this guide is just that, a guide.  It’s not set in stone.  Testing these bats out in person (if possible) is a best-case scenario to find the best bat for your player.

To check out Lousiville’s Slugger’s Bat sizing guide for softball click HERE.

STAMPS

It is VERY IMPORTANT to make sure that you are purchasing a bat with the correct stamps on it that you will need for the league the bat will be used in.

And with that, here is our list of best bats for the 2021 season and beyond.  Hope you enjoy it!

BEST FASTPITCH SOFTBALL BAT FOR YOUNG PLAYERS (OR THOSE THAT STRUGGLE WITH HEAVIER BATS)

Dudley Lighting Lift Composite Fastpitch Softball Bat
We honestly love this bat!  It is perfect for the newer player or even for a player that may not quite have the arm strength to swing a heavier bat.  There are very few composites out there that are drop 13 (also seen as “-13”) and this one fits the bill perfectly.  One of our own daughters is on her 2nd one of these.  She just doesn’t have the strength to hold up the -11’s like her sister did at that age and this one works great for her.  Another great thing about this bat is the price.  It’s usually half the price of many of the other bats you see used at this age, but will still put those to shame with the right girl and proper swing mechanics.  Do not overlook this bat!

MOST UNDERRATED BAT

Mizuno F20-PWR CRBN Fastpitch Softball Bat

If we had to have one pick for a “sleeper” bat, this would be it.  You rarely see this bat out in the wild, but almost everyone we’ve heard from has had nothing but positive comments on this bat.  No, Mizuno is not near as popular as many of the other ones, but they do still make great products and this bat is one of them.

BEST COMPOSITE BAT (BATS)

I’m sure some of you get tired of seeing certain bats make these lists year after year.  It just so happens that the CF line from Demarini is still coming in hot and doing its job.  Take your pick from the 2019, 2020, or 2021 models.  You can’t really go wrong with any of them and honestly, we have no problem buying a past year’s model and saving a few bucks, but we won’t hold it against you if you like sporting the newest model.  All these Demarini’s here will end up having great pop once you get it broken in.  There is a reason you see so many of these being used, it’s because they work!

This is the bat that finally made my oldest daughter quit swinging her CF Zen.  I’m not saying the CF Zen is a bad bat, but she LOVES this LXT.  The sound of this bat (in my opinion) is beautiful.  The looks are amazing and according to her, it feels terrific.   Having said that, I feel like it is very equivalent to the Demarini CF line and comes down more to what the player prefers after practicing with both.

Ok, just look up “the hottest bat” in most any facebook softball group and you will see Easton Ghost on repeat.  Consensus has it that the Easton Ghost is one sweet bat to own.  And Easton finally made this dual stamp so no more having a bat that only works in USSSA or ASA.  This bat though is bittersweet.  The sweet side is that it’s a super hot bat and from what I understand really pushing the envelope in technology.  The bitter part is that there are quite a few stories of this bat cracking or breaking.   When you get this bat you need to expect that there’s a possibility it will crack, however until that point it will most likely be one of, if not THE hottest bat you have ever swung.

BEST ALUMINUM BAT

BEST -12 ALLOY (YOUNGER PLAYERS)

Anderson Rocketech Flash

Anderson has made a name for itself in the alloy industry.  This bat is great for younger players needing the drop 12 advantage.  I will go as far as saying I wouldn’t hesitate to use this bat for 8u or 10u year-round, but especially in colder months.

BEST -9 ALLOY (OLDER PLAYERS)

Anderson Rocketech

As stated above Anderson seems to really be on top of the alloy mountain when it comes to bat design.  Many of the older players may carry 2 bats instead of one.  If you’re looking for that 2nd bat that can be your go-to for cold-weather games, then I wouldn’t look any farther than this bat.  You can’t go wrong with the Rocketechs.

IN CLOSING

Do not just take our word on all of these bats.  When it comes down to it there is no better way to know if you’re going to like a bat than by swinging it.  If you can find a place to go that sells many of these models then I would go there and put whatever bat through its motions before spending any money.  But, I understand that not everyone has that type of store to find all these bats in one spot so I get it if you have to bypass that step.  We don’t really have this in our area and almost every single bat we have ordered has been either through Amazon or directly from the manufacturer.  I will not hold it against you if you don’t get to swing them as we have done the same in the past as well.

We hope that this list helps you narrow down your choices to some of the better performing bats and saved you time in the hunt for the best fastpitch softball bat for 2021!

After a few seasons of fastpitch softball (especially at the travel ball level) you realize you or your player needs a QUALITY pair of softball cleats.  When they were young they could get by with whatever cleats you could find on clearance at the local sporting goods store (and don’t act like you didn’t do that!).  But once they get serious about the game and are in constant motion and standing on their feet for 3-5 games in a day, then you realize you really need to look into getting the best quality cleat that you can get for you or your player.

The Best Top Rated Softball Helmets For Girls Fastpitch

Softball Galaxy Family Owned

As the game of softball gets more competitive year after year, players find themselves looking for the best gear to keep them safe out on the field. While you don’t want injuries on any part of your body, you especially want to do everything to protect your head and face. Anything could happen on the field that could result in the need for a good helmet. With younger softball players, the main reason for a helmet may not be so much from a fast pitch but instead from a bad throw striking them in the head, or even a team mate swinging a bat too close to them. Once they get older everything speeds up. The pitches, throws and hits get much faster and having a helmet could potentially even safe someone from traumatic brain injury when a random hit or throw occurs.

Here at Softball Galaxy we’ve decided to help provide you with some of our favorite helmets that you may be interested in to protect that beautiful noggin of yours (or your childs). Lucky for you, helmet makers have also started making this piece of safety equipment not only work well, but look dang good at the same time! Hopefully you can find one that catches your eye and will get the job done that you need it for.

We have provided links to all helmets, however you need to make sure that the sizing is correct for the player you will be purchasing this for as some links may lead to a specific size.

Please make sure that whatever helmet you decide to purchase meets all standards for whatever league the player will be playing in.

Rawlings Sporting Goods Highlighter Series Softball Helmet BUDGET FRIENDLY – while not the most strikingly beautiful helmet on the market, this Rawlings helmet gets the job done and is a great helmet of choice for those looking for an affordable, but basic helmet. A little tip – check Walmart clearance at the end of the season to grab this helmet for a steal!

adidas OSFM Matte Triple Stripe Batting Helmet product image
Adidas Matte Triple Stripe Batting Helmet BUDGET FRIENDLY – The Triple Stripe Batting Helmet is another great option for the budget minded player or parent. With a simple design and a few colors to pick from, this helmet still gets the job done for that up and coming softball player.

Boombah DEFCON Sleek Profile Helmet – A lightweight and very attractive helmet available in Junior and Senior sizes. Pre-drilled for attachment of mask and/or chin strap.  As of this writing this helmet is available in LOTS of color combinations.

RIP-IT Vision Pro Softball Helmet ft. Blackout Technology – From the makers of our favorite fielders mask! The Rip-It Vision Pro is designed for optimal visibility that gives you an increased area of peripheral vision. Available in many colors and multiple sizes as well.

Easton Prowess Fastpitch Softball Helmet – Specifically engineered for the female athlete. One of the coolest things about this helmet (and it’s mainly a visual observance) is the fact that the facemasks hardware is hidden within the helmet which gives a very sleek look to the Easton Prowess. The helmet is designed so that there is less hair pulling when putting it on or taking it off. How we do love to see the initiative taken from Easton for safety wear specifically designed for girls!

Demarini Paradox Batting Helmet – Not only does Demarini make amazing bats, but they also make a good helmet as well.  There’s nothing fancy about the Demarini Paradox, but it definitely gets the job done at a price that won’t hurt your wallet too bad.  Available in a few colors and sizes.

Rawlings Custom Helmet Designer – Meet our favorite helmet…or should we say helmets. This isn’t just a helmet! At the Rawlings site you can design your own helmet. How awesome is that? Many companies such as Boombah, Demarini and now Rawlings have realized that custom gear is popular and this is probably the first of what will end up being a wave of custom helmet designs. This is not a helmet for the budget conscious. It’s quite pricey compared to a standard helmet, however you get exactly what you (or your player) wants with this option from an exceptional company!

Helmet Award Decals/Stickers – If you are a coach then don’t forget to reward your players for a job well done.  Hand these out for any reason you think deserves some special recognition (MVP, RBI’s, Home Runs, Stolen Bases, etc) and deck that helmet out!

Chin Straps – While not everyone needs a chin strap, some leagues require it. Here are our two recommendations for chin straps, one with a chin cup and one without.

The Best Birthday & Christmas Gift Ideas For Fastpitch Softball Players

Softball Galaxy Family Owned

Sometimes it’s just outright impossible to find the right gift for that special person in your life. Add the fact that it is for an athlete (or in this case a softball player) then it can just get plain aggravating to keep searching for the perfect gift. SoftballGalaxy.com has decided to step up and help you find just the right birthday or Christmas present for that amazing athletic girl in your life. Make sure to scroll to the very bottom so that you don’t miss out on our list of favorite stocking stuffers as well!

RIP-IT Defense Pro Softball Fielder’s Mask with Blackout Technology
RIP-IT is quickly becoming the number 1 mask seen at every softball tournament we attend and there is a reason. These girls barely even know the mask is on and yet it still provides loads of protection in this fast paced sport. They are also available in YOUTH models as well for the younger girls.

Charles River Apparel Pack-N-Go Wind & Water-Resistant Pullover (Reg/Ext Sizes)
If you are accustomed to playing tournaments every weekend then you know that eventually you will end up in the rain. Let your softball players have a way to get out and move from tent to tent with this awesome, portable Water-Resistant pullover and she will surely thank you!

Tifosi Women’s Lust Sport Sunglasses

A fastpitch softball player’s glasses take a beating so rest assured any player would be happy with a new pair of sunglasses. Not only is this a great gift, but if they are already wearing sunglasses with scratches (especially a problem with younger players), having a new pair increases their chances of seeing better thus better and safer play. Also makes a great stocking stuffer!

AKASO Brave 4 4K 20MP WiFi Action Camera Ultra HD with EIS 30m Underwater Waterproof Camera Remote Control 5X Zoom Underwater Camcorder with 2 Batteries and Helmet Accessories Kit
Action cameras are all the rage right now, however there are so many options and many of them a sub-par cameras. That isn’t true of the Akaso. After our team going through two other non Go-Pro action cameras we finally found this one and have been happy ever since. Let your players use them for fun, or if they want mount them to a fence and let her be able to go back an relive her highlights (or errors) in games played.

DeMarini 2020 CF (-11, -10) Fastpitch Bat Series
The CF line of DeMarini bats are just plain sweet bats. Lot of pop, longevity and backed by a great company make these bats desirable to many girls. Just make sure you are getting the right size for your player and if possible let her demo swing the bat if available at a shop local to you.

DeMarini Voodoo Rebirth Backpack
If rolling bags aren’t favored by the softball player in your life, then we highly recommend the Voodoo Rebirth Backpack. One of the highest rated bags out there and for good reason. It provides room enough for 2 bats, helmet, shoes and even a fleece lined pocket for her phone and valuables. Please note this bag will probably not work if your player needs a bag to hold all her catchers gear. Available in multiple colors.

GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rocker Portable Folding Rocking Chair
Give her the gift of comfort with this amazing rocking chair. We all know days are long at tournaments and there can be lots of waiting for the next game so we really think your player will thank you for this sturdy portable rocking chair. The icing on the cake is that while she’s playing maybe you can borrow it while she’s not able to sit in it!

AOMAIS GO Bluetooth Speakers,Waterproof Portable Indoor/Outdoor 30W Wireless Stereo Pairing Booming Bass Speaker,30-Hour Playtime with 8800mAh Power Bank,Durable for Home Party,Camping(Black)
For a mid-sized bluetooth speaker (about the size of a shoe box) this speaker is great! The sound from it has great highs and lows so whenever she wants to pump herself and the team up this will perfectly handle the job.

Anker PowerCore 10000, One of The Smallest and Lightest 10000mAh External Batteries, Ultra-Compact Portable Charger, High-Speed Charging Technology Power Bank for iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and More
We’re so lucky to have our girls involved in sports since you see so many kids out of shape from being addicted to the electronics in their lives. However, a full day at the field can still bring that phones battery down and for safety reasons it’s a great idea to have a way for them to charge up their phones. This power bank can charge the phone up multiple times so it’s great for her to carry to the weekend tournaments.

Rawlings Liberty Advanced Finger Shift 12.5 Inch RLA125FS-15WNS Fastpitch Softball Glove
This is such a beautiful, performing glove that there isn’t a softball player out there that wouldn’t love it. If it’s time for a new glove in her life then we highly recommend the Liberty Advanced series gloves. Don’t forget to make sure you get the right size for her. If you are looking for a quality glove for a younger players (since the Liberty advanced doesn’t go into the smaller sizes) then we recommend looking at the 11.75″ Rawlings Liberty Advanced Fastpitch Softball Glove Series for infielders.

Precision Impact Softball Squishies: Heavy-Duty Lightweight Balls for Softball Hitting Training (8-Pack)
If your player does a lot of practice at home then this makes a great training ball that won’t go far which especially useful when space is limited. Bright colored so as not to lose them and surprisingly durable for the soft-ish feel on these balls. They are unlike any practice ball we’ve ever used and we love them!

The Hitting Vault (Pro)
Probably one of the most valuable gifts we’re recommending in this list. If your player truly immerses herself into The Hitting Vault program then she will more than likely improve her batting considerably! Put out by the amazing Coach Lisle and if you’re not familiar with that name then here’s some info on him(Coach Lisle). For just a single player the Pro version will be exactly what you’re looking for. Also, if you have any questions they are very responsive on facebook with answering any questions you may have.

The Hitting Vault

Invincible Fitness Agility Ladder Training Equipment Set, Improves Coordination, Speed, Explosive Power and Strength, Includes 10 Cones, 4 Hooks and 3 Loop Resistance Bands for Outdoor Workout
Just because the holiday season is usually the off-season, doesn’t mean that training is over. In fact, this is the best time of year to tackle agility and speed training. With an agility ladder, cones, hooks and resistance bands you will have everything you need for your own training sessions on cool sunny days in the backyard.

MacGregor Infield Training Glove
Another great training tool to use in the off-season and during the season. This is a must have for infielders to work on their “glove to throw” transition.

Varo ARC Bat Training Weight, 12oz, for Softball (Jennie Finch Edition) – Barrel Feel – Improve Your Batting, Barrel Speed, and Develop Swing Mechanics
Leave the old batting donuts in the bag and start using this great bat training weight. With much better fit around the bat and better weight distribution, the Varo ARC will end up being a much used and liked training item.

Rukket 7×7 Baseball & Softball Net | Practice Hitting, Pitching, Batting and Catching | Backstop Screen Equipment Training Aids | Includes Carry Bag
Rukket has quickly grown as the go to name is sports backstop and hitting nets. The reasons are simple. Great quality and fairly priced as opposed to some of the other overpriced nets. This 7×7 net will give months and months of backyard practice opportunities.

Bioamy Running Speed Chute Resistance Parachute 56 inch Powerchute Umbrella Training Sprint Power Soccer Trainer for Runner, Football, Soccer Drilling
These Resistance Chutes are perfect for a mixture of speed and strength training. This is a good resource for improving acceleration, muscle endurance, and direction adjustment.

Being completely wireless gives your athlete the ability to work hard and jam out at the same time. With up to 5 hours of play time on each charge you can expect them to last the full duration of even the longest training sessions.

Under Armour Sideline 64 Ounce Water Jug
Carry your liquids in style with this Water Jug. Softball players know the value of having hydration available at all times and not having to worry about running out. With this large 64 Ounce Jug she will stay hydrated the entire game.

G-Form Elite Batter’s Elbow Guard
When you’re in an age group where the pitching has progressed to throwing heaters, then an elbow guard can take some of the scariness out of those wild throws. Available in multiple colors and engineered to provide full elbow coverage without hindering the swing, these guards are well worth the investment.

EASTON Z5 Batting Helmet with Softball Mask | Junior | Solid Color | 2019 | Dual Density Impact Absorption Foam | High Impact Resistant ABS Shell | Moisture Wicking BioDRI liner

Best Softball Bats For 8U Girls

Softball Galaxy Family Owned

When girls hit the 7, 8 and 9 year old range they can really start benefiting from a decent bat. With all the options on the market, how is one to know what bat is better than the rest? We here at SoftballGalaxy.com have decided to narrow down the field a bit for you.

Just to make it clear, we firmly believe that the best way to find the right bat is by swinging it. If your interested in a bat you see on here, try and find somewhere local to demo the bat before purchasing it.

When buying your 8U daughter a new bat, you first need to decide what size and type of bat she should be swinging.  There are a few things you need to consider when looking for the right softball bat.

-Length
-Weight
-League Association
-Bat Type (Material)
-Length

When buying a bat, if you get a bat that is too long it can sometimes be very difficult for your child to swing. On the opposite end, you don’t want a bat that is too short for your child either. A good rule of thumb to remember is that a child under 60 pounds will usually do best with a bat between 26″-29″ and a child over 60 pounds will do best with a bat between 28″-32″. For a child just starting out, if they are in the 3′-3’4″ height range then 26″ is a good starting length for their first bat. For every 4-5″ that they grow, you should add 1″ to their bat length.

Weight

After you have figured out the proper length bat for you child, the next thing you should consider is weight of the bat. A bat that is too heavy will cause a much slower “draggy” swing with poor control that results in bad contact or all out strikes. When looking at bats, you will notice that many bats won’t show the actual weight but instead will show the drop weight. The drop weight is the difference between the length of the bat and the weight of the bat. In other words LENGTH – WEIGHT = DROP WEIGHT. For example, a bat that is 27″ and a weight of 17oz would have a drop weight of -10. For 6U and 8U players you will most likely be looking at bats with a (-13.5)-(-10) drop with the consideration that their bat is between 24″-29″.

League Association

Every league has their own rules regarding what is and isn’t allowed pertaining to equipment. When it comes to bats, the manufacturer stamps the bats with the logo of whatever certification that bat has. If you’re not sure if the bat you’re looking at is approved for your league then you should check with the coaches or read the league’s rule book to make sure the bat you are considering is allowed before purchasing it.

Bat Type (Material)

There are 3 main types of softball bats, when it comes to the material they are made out of. Alloy bats, Composite bats and Hybrids bats which are basically a mix of the two with the handle being composite and the barrels being alloy. Here we will show a few pros and cons of each material to help you decide which bat will work best for your child.

-Alloy Pros
Usually much less expensive than composite bats
Ready to use at purchase, no break in required
Often outlasts a composite bat since they usually don’t crack (instead they dent). A composite bat is unusable once cracked.

-Alloy Cons
Alloy usually has a smaller sweet spot and less pop than a composite bat

-Composite Pros
Less sting on your hands from mis-hit balls due to the reduced vibration in these bats
Larger sweet spot and more pop than an alloy bat

-Composite Cons
Bats require a break-in period
More expensive than alloy bats

– Hybrid Pros
Usually cost less than a full composite bat
No break in period
Less sting and vibration due to the composite handle
Longer barrel life than a composite (due to the barrel end being alloy)

-Hybrid Cons
Costs more than a full alloy bat
Handle can be susceptible to cracking

Below you will find our 5 favorite bats for the 8U age group.  In the end one of the main decision makers should be your daughter. What bat does she like? What feels good to her? What bat looks the best to her? If she walks up to the plate with confidence that the bat she carries is going to help her get a great hit, then it just may do that. She may not need any of these bats below. Let her swing her friend’s bats and see which one feels good to her. Bring her to the sporting goods store and let her swing some. Ultimately, she should be the big deciding factor in which bat she ends up with.

1. Demarini Bustos

The Demarini Bustos is great 2 piece bat put out by one of the best bat companies in the market. One great thing about this bat is you’re not going to break the bank for a bat that has a proven track record. The Bustos shows up in a lot of kids bat bags for the reason that they just love these very light drop 13 bats that get the job done! Another plus is that with the composite handle there should be less sting at contact, and we all know how important that can be to some of these little ones!

2. Dudley Lightning Lift (not to be confused with the Dudley Lightning Lite)

The Dudley Lightning Lift showed up on our very own doorstep this spring, and boy have we loved it so far! The Lightning Lift is another drop 13 bat (so extremely light), however unlike the Bustos the Lightning Lift is 100% composite. With an XL Sweetspot paired with the lightness of the full composite bat you get an amazing bat at a price point much lower than the other full composite bats that made our list.

3. Mizuno Jennie Finch

The Mizuno Jennie Finch is what we would consider the budget bat of the bunch. It’s a one piece MZ 2200+ alloy design in -13 drop. You can scour forums and message boards and see that many parents swear by this bat. We would not hesitate to recommend this bat to someone not quite ready to spend $100 or more on a new bat. Now you can use all the money you saved for very valuable batting lessons instead!

4. Demarini CFX

If you’ve ever been to any 8U tournament it’s almost guaranteed you have seen the CFX being used. It’s truly one of our favorite bats here at SoftballGalaxy.com. If you have a daughter with a great swing and you seriously want to get the best out of her efforts, then look no further than the CFX. The pop, the balance, the durability…what more could you ask for. We HIGHLY recommend this bat to the girls that take softball seriously.

5.  Louisville Slugger LXT

The Louisville Slugger LXT seems to be the best alternative to Demarini’s CFX if you’re looking for a high end 8U 100% composite bat. This is one of the other bat’s you will definitely see around 8U softball tournaments and for good reasons. The LXT is an extremely balanced bat that comes pretty hot out of the wrapper.  In our opinion it’s not the “prettiest” bat out there.  One of our daughters actually avoided this bat due to the fact she didn’t like the way it looks.  Does that mean less performance?  Absolutely not, but remember…they are the ones carrying it to the plate under pressure and if they don’t feel 100% happy with their bat then it could actually affect their outcome.  Despite that, this bat is still one amazing bat.

The Best List Of Youth Appropriate Fastpitch Softball Team Names

Youth Fastpitch Softball Best Team Name

Softball Galaxy Family Owned

“The name on the front of the uniform is more important than the name on the back”

We’ve probably seen this softball quote shared on social media at some point.  These are VERY true words.  But what happens if you still don’t have any idea what name to put on the front of that fastpitch softball uniform?  It just so happens we can help!  We have painstakingly done much research and even went to the trouble of alphabetically listing our favorite team names that works for any youth fastpitch softball team! (ok…so it wasn’t painstakingly….we actually had fun doing this!).

When reading through this list don’t forget to add your city name, county name, or even works like “lady” or “the” in front of these names to mix it up a little.  Sometimes you might just end up finding the perfect team name with that little twist.
